Mate as Vegan? Do we have a better word for this? I think mate is an enviromental friendlier product than coffee. Here how I came to it: Yesterday I came to Ehrfurt in Thuringer, Germany and went to eat in a vegan fast food. Thuringer is famous for salsiches, I did not want to miss it, but it just make sense to reduce meat eating for climate change. So I went and had an excelent fast food political correct lunch. The next tought was but those guys all offer coffee? Well they also had club and Kolle mate, but the point I want to ask is: if the some non vegan like me reduce meat for climate protection and also for animal care, would not the same principle apply for drinking mate instead of coffee? If one drinks Meta Mate, one is fostering the preservation of forest and general wild life. I wonder if there is another word to use on the claim, because Vegan is focused on non animal, and brings the implications of better CO2. Is there non monoculture, or something positive to be told? Fair Wild is not enough. I think we could bring more facts like how coffee is a colonisation product and how mate in agro forestal system can be a decolonizing one. I know that not all the mate is wild, there is also monocultures, but that would be like the discussion if the eggs are from mass animal production or from chicken free on the floor, in this way we could differentiate the kinds of mate.

META MATE DIFFERENCE:

  • Fresh and Wild hand made mate harvested in season.
  • Sustainable Industrial alternatives.
  • Transparent Origins and Open Source Philosophy

The best mate has to suit the individual needs as much as the collective ones. Our artisanal Meta Mate is produced by a small family of farmers by one hand. We offer to trace every harvest back up to the forest. Wild artesenal Mate guarentees a higher income and level of autonomy for small farmers, wherelse, monocultures and certifications are normally connected to larger land owners or cooperatives where the quality of the mate is lower and the independence and income of the small farmers are less. We dedicate ourselves, research and do a reforestation project to promote a peer to peer business model.

In some places, like in Argentina, it is recommended to use the Yerba-Mate only after a rest of at least 6 Months. This procedure increases the caffeine content and reflects the nature of the trees harvested. After studying the indigenous tradition, talking to families who have produced Yerba-Mate for generations, and trying ourselves, we learned the the highest quality depends on the freshness of the product.

Meta Mate Artisanal is fresh, self-harvested Mate. It has 100% old-growth forest origins. It was smoked with Yerba Mate wood, dried in a traditional manner, all from one hand.

We refrain from ‘push adverstising’ and concentrate on producing the highest quality mate possible. As a business model inspired by Mate itself, a tool for sharing and unifying, we promote a culture of transparencyand cooperation. Our open-franchise model allows partners to participate in product development and take decisions in a consensus.
